Putting the D in Defeat

Categories: NBA
A distinguished colleague of mine in San Francisco, Martin Kuz, has a great profile of Golden State head coach Don Nelson in this past week's SF Weekly. At the time the piece was written, the Warriors were a game or three back of the eighth seed in the West. Well now they are the eighth seed, and Dallas, Nellie's former employer, has got to be crapping diamonds (speaking of which, finally watched Blood Diamond last night. Wow: Indiana Jones with a very serious message. Shoulda been a contender for Best Picture). Why the loose stool in Big D? Because Golden State is the one team in the league which absolutely owns the Mavericks, having trounced them in four straight games. And if the playoffs were to start today, one-seed Dallas would face eight-seed Golden State. Shades of Denver-Seattle with Dikembe Mutombo laying on the ground shouting after the only 1-8 upset in league history? Let's hope we get the chance to find out.
