OK to PJ: Amscray
Bad team, bad gym, bad owner, bad coach. The only thing different - other than the surroundings - about the OKC Thunder this season and the Seattle Sonics last year is, as of today, the coach: The inept P.J. Carlesimo was fired after last night's 105-80 blowout loss by the Thunder to the returning Hornets, OKC's temp team of two earlier seasons. In 95 games with the Sonics/Thunder, Carlesimo has won all of 21 times.
Ex-Supes play-by-player Kevin Calabro did the OKC/NO game on ESPN last night and with each Thunder turnover (average 17 a game), he seemed to relive the misery he endured in 2007-08 when, at this point last year, Seattle was 2-10 (and went on to a franchise-record 20-62 finish). Bad as that was, the Thunder is off to an even worse start: 1-12, lousiest in the NBA.
Assistant Scott Brooks is now the interim coach and should the Thunder win tonight in New Orleans in a return match with the Hornets, he will have instantly equaled Carlesimo's success this year - one win.
