QA vs. QFC
The showdown over development of the 1900 block of Queen Anne Avenue North is heating up. Geov Parrish wrote about this in January. It's where Metropolitan Market now resides but where a four-story building is proposed involving a bigger grocery (middle-class QFC, not upper-class Metropolitan Market), plus residential and other commercial space. Many QA residents are working to stop this.
In response to the outcry, the developer is offering a slightly scaled down proposal (7 MB PDF) that will be discussed at a meeting of the Queen Anne Community Council's Land Use Review Committee on Monday (details here). This is the last stop at the neighborhood level for this "early design guidance" process before it moves to City Hall. It's the Seattle way.
