... The P-I has the better report on a rift between African Americans and African immigrants in Seattle. A shooting and jealousy over economic success are cited. ...

... Danny Westneat writes about the collective shrug over the likely departure of the Sonics: "The feeling is more than just resignation that the team is leaving. We've only known about it for two days and we're already over it." Not so in Oklahoma, where they're dusting off that surrey with the fringe on the top. Says the P-I, in a terrificly written report from OK City:

"Oh my goodness," he said grinning at a Seattle reporter. "It looks like we might be getting y'all's team. That would be wonderful for this town. If they decide to move, we'd be pretty enthused."

And Bill Virgin does a nice job poking holes in the financial-model-is-broken whine. ...

... Joni Balter says Dave Reichert might be in trouble. ...

The husband, who, like his family is a native of Russia, is a military intel specialist in the National Guard assigned temporarily to Baghdad. And the man arrested?

That's from the Times, which also reports that the guy used to live at a rehab house. The King County Journal has details about the neighborhood and reports that the suspect lived right across the street. ...

... Ron Judd writes about the implications of the puzzling mountain-trail slayings:

It's the temple of old growth, the church of ocean beaches, the hallowed neutral ground of clean air, blessed silence and sweeping views. It's the realm into which a lot of us slip on evenings, weekends and those treasured vacation days, just to get back in touch with what matters.

It's a psychological protective bubble, and last week's slayings revealed it to be exactly that: as solid as a single layer of soap film.
