She's in for Round Two

Darcy.jpg

After giving Rep. David Reichert a real run for his money — and raising more of it than he did last time around — Darcy Burner has already made it official. She's running for Washington's 8th District House seat in 2008.

Burner surprised a lot of folks last year when she emerged from political obscurity to become one of the Democrats' new rising stars— raising nearly $3,081,000. (About $35,000 more than the first-term incumbent.) When the dust settled, Reichert beat Burner 51.5 to 48.5 percent, a 7,341-vote margin.

Many expected the 35-year-old Harvard grad and former Microsoft manager to run again in 2008, and she decided not to make them wait, says Blair Butterworth, who's working as a consultant on Burner's campaign.

"Being coy is not your best strategy," he says.

If Burner is successful, she'd be the first Democrat to hold the House seat in the 8th, which was created in 1982 and includes Bellevue, Mercer Island and eastern King and Pierce counties.
