Craig, Cont.

What's the Seattle connection behind the semi-resignation of Idaho's shoe-tapping senator Larry Craig? So far, Mike Rogers, the blogger who supposedly outed Craig, isn't saying. But Rogers came here ostensibly to interview someone with knowledge of Craig's alleged homosexual overtures in the men's rooms of America.

Trips to Boise, Seattle and Columbus, made only with your help," he says on his Website, thanking readers for backing him financially, "made it possible for me to run my report and spur the Idaho Statesman to assign a reporter - fulltime for many months! - to the story."

The Statesman's report, on the heels of Roll Call's revelation that Craig had pleaded guilty to a sexual misconduct charge at a Minnesota airport men's room, led to the senator's denial he was gay but nonetheless to his apparent resignation, effective Sept. 30. Actually, Craig said it was his "intent" to resign, and is now thought to be weighing a return to court, withdrawing his plea, and, to the dismay of the GOP, staying on in D.C. (With hypocrisy now as much a part of his political makeup as conservatism, wouldn't he be one of the best legislative friends gay righters could hope for, no matter how he votes?).

If Craig digs in, perhaps more details about (or from) the Seattle source could emerge. For sure, says blogger Rogers, sounding a little power drunk from his media appearances, he'll be outing other lawmakers soon. "If you're a closeted Democrat or Republican, and you don't bash gays or vote against gay rights to gain political points, I won't out you."
