This past weekend, during the 2008 UNITY Journalists of Color Convention in Chicago, which featured a visit from Barack Obama, the National Association of Black Journalists gave out its Salute to Excellence Awards. Among the winners: our Mike Seely, for his look at the hard times and high hopes of former NBA player Joe Pace (above), and Brian Miller for his examination of the racial divide in the romance-novel industry.

This is Mike's fourth award from the group in the past five years.
