We're No. 6! But Where Is This "Hotlanta?"

Okay, we'll admit that all lists are inherently stupid. And we'll also admit that the media love lists and numerals. (As in, "Seattle's Top 100 Doctors!") We've written a few ourselves. But this new list from Forbes magazine? Which ranks the best American cities for singles? And Seattle comes in sixth—ahead of New York and L.A.? That's crazy. We know from past census data that Seattle actually ranks very high in single-person households. Washington, DC tops that particular index—but, c'mon, all those interns and congressional staffers are too busy checking their BlackBerries to actually date or hook up. And while Seattle is generally too polite and inhibited to be a dating mecca—as compared to NYC and LA—how could Dallas possibly be ranked ahead of us? And Atlanta ranked No. 1 for singles, in the middle of the Bible Belt? (Plus the humidity.) None of this makes sense, particularly coming from a business magazine founded by this guy below, Malcolm Forbes (1919-1990), who basically lived his life as a closeted gay man. Or maybe the Forbes list should've been called "Married, but available." Then No. 6 might make sense...
