More Downsizing at P-I

The Seattle Post-Intelligencer is the first to admit (here) that it's consolidating sections into three. The paper explains the move as follows:

"This reorganization saves on production costs, and that's important as we continue to bring you the best possible coverage in challenging economic times."
We at Seattle Weekly, which publishes in one, elegant single section--to minimize our carbon footprint and save the environment!--congratulate the P-I on its sensible move. And, related, we can warn our friends over on Elliott to be expecting some other efficiency measures:

  • Three writers will share each chair.
  • Only three restroom stalls will be available company-wide.
  • All stories will now be written using only three letters on the computer keyboard.
  • Reporting will only be done from three counties: King, Pierce, and Snoho.
  • Only three trucks will be needed to distribute the entire print run.
  • Long-range weather forecasts will be trimmed to three days.
  • The sports department will economize by only following the first three quarters of football and basketball games.
  • No movie reviews can exceed a three-star rating. (Sorry, Bill.)

We wonder how long it will be until until the P-I prints only one section. Could the answer be three days?
