Police Chief Tapped for "Drug Czar" Post
The dailies are reporting that Seattle Police Chief Gil Kerlikowske is leaving for the Obama administration, most likely to become a Cabinet-level "drug czar." Kerlikowske most likely will have a liberalizing effect on drug policy. Drug law reformers have noticed of late that he has devoted new energy to trying a different approach. Under his direction, Seattle police are about to launch a new pilot program that would give drug offenders a chance to shape up rather than be arrested. ![]()
