You may have been following the story about how the Department of Licensing is cracking down on Seattle's semi-pro wrestling league, making it abide by safety regulations, post a bond, and generally be all official and shit. Well, now the nation is following it, too. In case you missed it, yesterday the Wall Street Journal gave the story a full online spread, complete with video and a slide show. It's worth checking out.

There's one thing I wonder, though: This league's been around for six years, but I recall in 2000 attending a seemingly similar wrestling promotion in a warehouse off of Westlake. There was no ring, per se--people wrestled on the floor--and the main event featured a doughy, naked man in what might be described as a futuristic hedgehog mask going against a diminutive woman in tights, cape, and luchador mask. Was that a league, too, or just a one-time affair?
