$1 Billion in the Other White Meat

norm.jpg
Here piggy, piggy. As part of legislative reform, U.S. House members today were required to post the number, types and costs of earmarks they are requesting. Brian Baird's list (which includes a $5 million Seattle-made "Modular Glove System" for U.S. SpecialOp Forces) is tops in local delegation costs and Norm Dicks' list is first in quantity. Dicks' requests include $11.25 million for Ordnance Storage Pads with Covers and $5 million for the Floating Area Network Littoral Sensor Grid, which we must need, plus $235,000 for Cool Season Legume Research, which we might not.

Here's a delegation list, totaling $1 billion plus, compiled by the News Tribune: Brian Baird, D-Vancouver, 71 projects, $262 million; Norm Dicks, D-Belfair, 82, $216 million; Rick Larsen, D-Lake Stevens, 51, $196 million; Adam Smith, D-Tacoma, 58, $139 million; Cathy McMorris Rodgers, R-Deer Lake, 34, $122 million; Jay Inslee, D-Bainbridge, 46, $77.8 million; Doc Hastings, R-Pasco, 24, $54.9 million; Dave Reichert, R-Auburn, 13, $24.4 million; Jim McDermott, D-Seattle, Did not post. Details available at each rep's website. U.S. Senators will post their lists next month.
