Paul Allen Bolts From Cannes

allen-yacht_blog.jpg
Although The New York Daily News gossip pages are nowhere near as good as The New York Post's, we do like this headline: "Tycoon Allen's Exit Cannes-spicuous." According to the NYDN report, "Billionaire Paul Allen cut short his trip to France's Cannes Film Festival amid rumors of a medical emergency. Allen had a string of parties lined up this past week aboard his 416-foot yacht Octopus. He was there on Monday for the one where Eurythmics co-founder Dave Stewart performed for a crowd that included Mick Jagger, Quentin Tarantino, Tilda Swinton, and Diane Kruger. But some became worried when he departed the next day, leaving Jody Patton, his sister and CEO of his Vulcan Inc., to host the rest of the boat parties."

The paper further reminds us of Allen's treatment Hodgkin's lymphoma in the '80s, which led to his early retirement from Microsoft, the company he founded with Bill Gates. Allen, and his many yachts, have been a fixture at Cannes since he began investing his Microsoft money in movie studios and producing a few pictures of his own. His track record hasn't been that great. But we certainly hope his health is not, in fact, at risk.
