One Peril of McGinn's All-Volunteer Staff: Not Immediately Realizing Empire Way Has Been Renamed Martin Luther King Jr. Way

empirewaytav.jpg
We just received word from Mike McGinn's campaign that the mayoral candidate will "announce a major policy initiative tomorrow morning at the Columbia City light rail station." Presumably, he'll be unveiling his transportation plan, a topic which has kept area blogs buzzing today. The location of the aforementioned rail station, as noted in the McGinn release, is "Empire Way S and S Edmunds St."

The street name "Empire Way" will only ring a bell to Seattleites who've got a little gray in their beards, as that street was long ago renamed "Martin Luther King Jr. Way." The lesson, as Robert Jamieson (where have you gone, Bobby?) once reminded us: Don't be overly reliant on Google Maps. (Update: The McGinn camp just sent out a corrected version of the release that properly lists MLK Way as the location.)
