Rosenberger Doesn't Give a Damn 'Bout Noble's Bad Reputation

If you were running for office, would you accept an endorsement from someone who pleaded guilty to getting plastered, driving the wrong way down a freeway, and ramming into a Jeep, injuring two women?

With high-profile fights being waged in the races for King County Executive, Seattle Mayor, and City Attorney, the mid-term King County Assessor's race has been flying under the radar. The Assessor oversees the process for deciding how much your property is worth, and concurrently, how much you pay in taxes on it. The job is all about words like plats, zoning, and fair-market value, which makes it sounds pretty boring (until you get your bill). But the guy who last held the job ended his tenure with quite the spectacle.

Scott Noble became the Assessor in 1992 when he replaced Bruce Holland, who died in office. Noble had been winning re-election to the post ever since, but that all came to a crashing halt earlier this year. He got drunk to the tune of a .22 BAC, got in his car, headed the wrong way down I-5, and struck a Jeep Liberty, injuring two women. The race to replace got underway pretty quickly with Noble's interim successor Richard Medved seeking a full term and Port Commissioner Lloyd Hara jumping in.

Then Medved suffered a stroke. (Look, I'm not real superstitious, but whoever wins might do well to have a little exorcism in the office.) Which left the race wide-open and now there are five people running for the post. One of them is Bob Rosenberger, who today announced, via spokesperson John Wyble, a whole slew of endorsements--including one from Noble himself. And why not? It's not like the guy left office for bad assessments, just really bad judgment.
