Amazon Spoof Amazero Encourages Consumers to Buy Nothing®

amazero.jpg
Green gossip gurus Ecorazzi say Seattle-based online giant Amazon has a new competitor. Actually, that's not entirely true.

Because while spoof site Amazero does look a whole lot like Amazon, it only hawks one product: Nothing®.

The joke site, launched by carbon conscious non-profit Green Thing, is an attempt to convince consumers that they don't actually need all that new crap they're undoubtedly going to buy between now and Christmas.

It's an admirable message communicated with flair. In no small part because Amazero looks almost exactly like Amazon, right down to the product reviews and shipping information. (Apparently Nothing® still takes 3-5 days to be delivered.)

Will it convince people to buy less during the holiday shopping season? That's doubtful. But as a work of anti-consumerist art and an honest attempt to get people to curb their spending habits, it's a whole lot better than doing Nothing® at all.
