Mac Users Pounce on Microsoft-Saks Windows 7 Twitter Feed
UPDATE: TechFlash says Microsoft may be censoring the offending Tweets. Details after the jump.
So that's why no one on Twitter likes Microsoft.
To remind holiday shoppers about their new OS Windows 7, Microsoft recently bought a display window in legendary New York department store Saks Fifth Avenue. In the window is a video monitor with a live Twitter feed showing Tweets featuring the hashtag #holidaywindows. (Get it?)
The hashtag was obviously created to let Microsoft fans talk well of their favorite software-maker. But in typical Microsoft fashion the plan has backfired. As #holidaywindows has now become the preferred hashtag of every Mac fan on the planet. (Sample Tweet: GuilhermeDeitos Get Windows 7 and win free viruses! #holidaywindows)
At this point, Microsoft has essentially become the British in Braveheart. They ride to the center of a field, agree on a gentlemanly set of rules for battle, then get slaughtered when William Wallace and the Scots rout their flank. It's a fine analogy, so long as you avoid the Steve-Jobs-in-a-kilt visual.
UPDATE: Mac Tweeters may be having a blast online but there comic efforts aren't being seen on the ground, says Todd Bishop.
A Microsoft rep told TechFlash that the company is using a filter that excludes "any attempt to spam the windows with negative commentary that is not in the spirit of the holidays." Does that include the guy who told Santa his Christmas wish was for Microsoft to pay its back taxes? Sadly, we may never know.

Mac people are the most annoying people on the planet. What kind of zombie is so enamored with any big corporation? This isn't a pro-Microsoft comment. It's an anti-moron comment.

Humans are fond of cults, however bizarre. I prefer Mac but it's just a company. On the other hand in this era of corporate fraudulence I can see how people would admire Apply. But enough, please!

Seriously, it is all in fun. I have a Mac, but I don't consider myself a fanboy, but it is tempting to have some fun at Microsofts expense. It isn't like the same thing wouldn't happen if the roles were reversed.

if all these apple faniboys think they are so elite why on earth does apple write such a program like bootcamp?
because they want their elite machines to actually be a PC!!! running Windows 7.

PC is short for personal computer, let me remind you. And Apple themselves didnt write very much. It's still FreeBSD with eyecandy.

Hysterical! Microsoft seems to be the Wiley T.Coyote of planning. Everything they try to do in the public eye backfires. I see Jerry Seinfield is back to Macs in the latest "Seinfeld Reunion" episodes of Curb Your Enthusiasm.

Every Windows user would not want a Mac. I wouldn't. Neither would i want Windows. If only there were photoshop and dreamweaver for linux I'd run there and never look back.
