Election Night '09: New York's New DA is Ex-Seattleite

vance.jpg
Seattle picked a new city attorney yesterday and so did New York - overwhelmingly electing former longtime Seattle attorney, Cyrus Vance Jr.

In NYC he's called the district attorney of course, and while many TV-watching Americans thought the Big Apple's DA was Sam Waterston - a.k.a. Jack McCoy, actually an assistant DA for most of Law & Order - it was legendary Robert Morgenthau, 90, who presided for 35 years.

Vance, who was endorsed by Morgenthau, won a smashing 92 percent of the Tuesday vote. He practiced here for 16 years, was a Seattle University law instructor, and represented such clients as Mary Kay Letourneau's victim/husband Vili Fualaau amd former University of Washington football coach Rick Neuheisel.

The son of President Jimmy Carter's Secretary of State, Vance moved back to his native NYC in 2004 but remains a member of the Washington State bar.
