Pontiac Silverdome Sold for $583,000: Here's the House the New Owners Could Have Bought
At an auction on Monday, the Pontiac Silverdome, the former home of the NFL's Detroit Lions, was sold to a Canadian developer for $583,000. Roughly half of what a New Jersey couple recently paid for the one-bedroom bungalow where Bruce Springsteen wrote "Born to Run" and a 99% discount on the $55 million it cost to build the stadium 35 years ago.
If only they'd thrown in the football team too they might have made it a cool million.
The Silverdome's new owners say they plan to use it as a home for a professional soccer team. But assuming they were just in the market for any old house, just what could their money have gotten them here in Seattle?
Presenting...

...the townhouse in Magnolia...

...versus the dome in Michigan.
What: Magnolia townhouse vs. Michigan dome
Where: Near Discovery Park vs. Near Detroit
How much: $585,000 vs. $583,000
Square feet: 1,490 vs. 430,000
Bedrooms: Two (one master, one guest) vs. 103 luxury suites (including the owner's -- that's you)
Bathrooms: 1.75 vs. No actual figures, but we're guessing more than two
Parking: One garage spot vs. 12,464 on-site, with another 8,700 off-site
Built: This year vs. 1975
Listing agent: Dan Wilcynski of Windermere Real Estate vs. City of Pontiac
Sustainability bona fides: Certified LEED Platinum. Rooftop solar panels, bamboo floors and dual-flush toilets vs. Holes in roof provide cost-effective ventilation
Biggest crowd: Probably during the open-house with the salmon-cake spread vs. 93,173 for Wrestlemania III
Haunted? Probably not vs. Almost certainly -- the Lions won only one playoff game in 26 years at the Silverdome, enough reason to think the place might still be filled with ghosts
Verdict: You can't go wrong with treated cedar siding. That stuff is durable and keeps your house smelling like a shaded glen all year round. Magnolia wins.

Spooks? That's ridiculously insensitive and a very derisive term to refer to the skin color of most of Detroit's suffering population.

Yikes. Clearly, JKR, I was making a reference to ghosts and didn't intend for it to come off as a slur. But since there's so many available words I could use other than THAT one, I'll go ahead and change it.

This is what happens when a city is destroyed by niggers. Nothing left in the Detroit Metro are that is in an area inhabited by these animals is of any value now.
Anyone thinking about buying anything in Detroit should look to see what race lives nearby before purchasing.

Yikes! Ronduck are you from Detroit?
No matter.
I think the Silver Dome could be converted to the largest green house in the world.
Replace white roof with clear material; main floor is a huge growing area; seating area would be terraced; mushroom and composting in low light areas; plenty of water; abundent labor; many high tech engineers for automated planting, harvesting and controls; overhead/drop down harvest capability; plenty of room around the stadium for more greenhouses, energy windmills and solar panels
