Eric Murillo, walking argument for teetotalism, has been charged with vehicular homicide by King County prosecutors following an eventful weekend where he ran down pedestrian at a crosswalk.
Acccording to court documents, it was just after 2 a.m. on Sunday morning and Murillo, 23, and his drinking buddy were driving through Belltown, yelling at pedestrians as they went. Murillo stopped his Honda Accord at the intersection of Bell and Western as Jerome Dumalo began walking across the street. The two exchanged words, after which Murillo pulled forward and struck the man.
And then instead of doing the neighborly thing and attending to Dumalo's injuries, Murillo allegedly proceeded to run the thirty-year-old over, all while his wife and friend watched nearby.
Dumalo sustained head trauma and internal injuries. He was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at Harborview Medical Center.
Following the accident, the man behind the wheel of the car that killed him was spotted driving the wrong way down a one way street and arrested. According to police, Murillo's blood alcohol level was a robust 0.13 ( the legal limit is 0.08, kids).
In related news, Murillo, who is currently being held on $500,000 bail, turns 24 today. Somewhere inside King County jail, there's a young man wishing desperately for enough money to retain the lawyer behind the Starbucks Defense.
