Blaine Lints, 16-year-old Ultramarathoner, Plans to Run 130 Miles in 24 Hours

This kid will make you feel guilty for run-walking that 5K.

Five marathons in one day. That's Blaine Lints's modest goal.

Two years ago the 16-year-old Newport High School student became the second-youngest competitor to finish the Lake Stevens Ironman. Last year, he ran a seven-leg relay solo and finished second amongst much older, and in his opinion much more serious, athletes. Now he wants a world record.

Lints has pledged to run 130 miles in 24 hours at the University of Washington's Relay for Life on May 22-23. Completing the run would mean going nonstop for a whole calendar day while raising money for cancer research. It'd also earn him the title of "Most miles run by a teenager in 24 hours."

"I like to do things that push me," says Lints, showing he's just at adept at understatement as he is at running. "And I have yet to find a race that pushed me hard enough to where I even thought about quitting."
