One reader doesn't think Shane McClellan is telling the whole truth when he says two men beat him up because he was white.

Reader hms-one responds to Shane McClellan Says He Was Beaten Because of the Color of His Skin. He doesn't think McClellan is telling the whole story. And when he says "strains credibility" we're pretty sure he meant "credulity" instead.

"I'm sorry, I don't believe this kid. Oh, I believe that he was white, that he was out at 2am, and that he took an ass beating from 2 minority assailants, I just don't buy the hate crime angle. It strains credibility. Not saying it's impossible, just not likely. I don't think guys assaulting him would explain their motivations as described. 'I'm kicking you in the face because of slavery' just seems like a silly thing to say."

So, Caleb, you took my comment on your blog and made it the next article on your blog? You have my email address, so why didn't you contact me? I won't even ask why you think my opinion on your blog is somehow newsworthy in and of itself. I don't really care. I'm just wondering why you didn't feel the need to inform me of your article. I understand that anything I write on the internet is fair game, but the next time you write a blog post about someone else's opinion, perhaps you could be bothered to contact them! You could have asked me for further comment, or maybe even permission. I would think this was simple due diligence for someone who calls themselves a journalist. Mike the commenter gave more facts about this case with his posting of the police report than you have in your 3 articles on the subject. You are lucky that I don't care about this enough to contact your boss and raise holy hell. The next commenter you abuse this way may not be so forgiving. It's funny that no one has talked about the fact that 2 men beat up a teenage kid. Regardless if he's telling the truth about why he was beat up, the fact still remains: TWO MEN BEAT THE HELL OUT OF A TEENAGE KID. Hello? America? Do we not arrest people who do that kind of thing?
Lets say for a second that the kid is hiding something. Lets say he was buying drugs and tried to rip them off. Had sex with the black guys mother, and put a finger in the pac islander. I'll even say it's possible he knew these guys. I don't think I have ever identified someone as a phillipino unless they told me they were... Anyway, the point is even if he did all that stuff, none of it calls for 4 hours of torture. Even if he had raped or murdered someone it doesnt call for 4 hours of torture. Think Rodney King... that guy was a complete low life, hopped up on drugs, driving recklessly. That didn't stop pop-media from labeling it a hate crime.
Why didn't the SPD arrest the two males for having an open container of beer on the street?

He stated that as they beat him they also took his Memorex touch screen MP3 player, $27 and change, his black puffy coat, and his belt (black leather with red square shaped studs). stated that the two males took him to the area where 14 AV SW dead ends just south of SW Holden ST and continued to beat him until approximately 0615 hrs when they departed. He stated that during the approximately 4 hours that they held him they continued to beat him with their fists and feet. He stated that they whipped him with his own belt and burned him with lit cigarettes. He also stated that they were both drinking and that they poured energy beer on him (trying to make him drink it) and urinated on him. At several points, he said that one would take a smoke break while the other beat him and they would trade off. He stated that at several points when he started screaming or making noise the Phillipino male brandished a folding knife toward him and threatened to "slit his throat if he kept screaming". stated that both suspects aluded to having guns but he did not actually see any. He did state that at one point he thought he heard the sound of the slide being racked on an gun. stated that throughout the assault both suspects kept saying things like "the white man has kept us down" and "how do you like it white boy" and "this is for enslaving our people". He stated that several times they threatened to kill him. After he knew they were gone he made his way down to the street and was spotted by a passer-by. injuries were photographed, I gathered contact info, and SFD had him transported to HMC in short order. At the time of the initial interview he was unable to provide a more detailed description of his two attackers. I was able to locate the scene of the assault (at the dead end of the 7700 BLK of 14 AV SW), where I located blood smears on the guard rails and a fresh cigarette butt which I collected for DNA analysis. On the stairs directly to the northeast (leading from SW Holden ST) of the dead-end I located more fresh cigarette butts several coins (untarnished), and an empty can of "FOUR loko" energy beer (Fresh). The entire location and all located items were photographed. As I was returning to the precinct to begin paperwork on the Assault. I observed a black male and an (apparently) Phillipino male in their early 20's walking together eastbound in the 1600 BLK of SW Holden ST. The black male had what appeared to be an open beer can in his coat pocket and he was attempting to conceal it as he passed by me. I circled around the block and contacted the two individuals sitting on a bench behind the bus stop on the south side of SW Holden ST and 16 AV SW. The black males beer was unopened but the Phillipino male had an open can of the same beer and attempted to conceal it under the bench as I approached. I immediately noticed that the energy beer that both suspects possessed was the same brand, size and flavor as the empty can I located at the scene of the assault. I asked them for identification and they each provided picture ID. The black male was identified as (DOB 87) and the Phillipino male was identified as (DOB 89). As I spoke with them I observed that had dried blood on the side of his face and on closer inspection I also located dried blood on both sides of his hands, and the front of his shirt. I inspected hands and located dried blood on his right palm. Both suspects were frisked for weapons. I asked if they smoked and they both said yes. pulled out a half empty pack of Marlboro Reds (the same brand as the cigarette butts at the scene. I asked to look at them and he handed them to me. I observed an half smoked cigarette in the pack and collected it for DNA comparison. I screened the event with A/SGT D. Carlson and it was decided that due to lack of a full physical description at the time we would get good contact info for the two and release them. Before releasing them I swabbed the dried blood on both of their hands for DNA comparison. After releasing the two suspects I returned to the original scene and collected a swab of the blood from the guard rail for DNA comparison. Officer N. Freutel contacted at HMC and obtained a written statement, a signed medical release waiver and collected his clothes for evidence. People stick up for the bigots that attacked the kid because they are racists too. To think that only white people can be racists is absurd. I grew up in Hawaii as a "haole" (the word really means nig...r) and it was like living as a black person the 1950's south. Know your place and show "respect" and you might be left alone with just some insults thrown your way. Show your displeasure and you will end up getting beaten since usually you are outnumbered when the confrontation takes place. You mainlanders don't get it.
It may be tempting to call bullshit on this kid (the story sounded weird to me too), but it's mean-spirited to engage in speculation about how he may have somehow deserved it. I speak as someone who got his own 17-year old ass beaten at 2 a.m. I still have the scars. It was fucking humiliating. I can see why someone might be tempted to lie about the circumstances that lead to something like that. Kids do stupid shit and lie about it all the time. No one deserves to be beaten and pissed on. I call bullshit on further humiliating him.
What is amazing is that of all the blogs out there this one gets printed. What is so incredible about the racial overtones of this attack? People say racial things during an attack to create terror in their victims. Slavery is one of the things that everyone knows about, and everyone mostly associates slavery with black people. What is a random mugger? Does that mean that there are muggers out there that aren�t random? If so why don�t the police arrest them? What I do find amazing is that the police found two people fitting a loose description of the attackers drinking the same brand size and flavor energy drink smoking the same brand of cigarettes, and covered in blood just a few blocks from the attack and they weren�t taken into custody. What amazes me is that this was a story for a day or two then it faded away to obscurity. Why is that? I suppose that the person that wrote this blog (Hannon) would probably say that a girl that was raped was raped because of her clothing. People stop sticking up for these thugs. There is no defense for their actions. I tend to wonder why people do stick up for them.
