So often, the people who wax rhapsodic about family farmers and small-town life in America are also the ones cheering for a crackdown on illegal immigrants. Sarah Palin is just one example. 
But as Nina Shapiro shows in her fascinating cover story this week, if small towns and family farms are being preserved in Washington--and around the country--it's largely thanks to Mexican immigrants, many of them onetime illegals.
