Owen Murphy Out as 710-ESPN Program Director
Multiple sources at 710-ESPN have confirmed that Owen Murphy is out as the radio station's program director. Murphy was promoted to that post this past November after having helped see the station through its conversion from news-talk to an all-sports format as assistant program director, a job he took in January 2009 after stints as both an on-air personality and producer in other parts of the country.![]()
When he was originally hired by the station, then-program director Rod Arquette, who stepped down in February, said of Murphy: "It is hard to find anyone more passionate about sports radio than Owen." We've got a message in to 710 general manager Dave Pridemore seeking an explanation for Murphy's departure, and will update this post if and when we get a response.
Update: Blatherwatch, which predicted a Bonneville bloodbath over a week ago, reports that Operations Manager Ryan Hatch will be in charge of hiring Murphy's replacement. Double Update: Murphy's replacement has been named and will soon be en route from L.A.
