Seattle's Cheapest Home Sales of the Month and the Luxury Items That Could Be Bought Instead

Local real estate blog Seattle Bubble just put out its monthly snapshot of the cheapest homes currently on the market and the cheapest homes that actually sold in the last month. Needless to say, homes are so inexpensive that sellers are practically paying people to buy them. So yes, $53,035 for a two bedroom, one bathroom house in Rainer Beach is a great deal. But days after that house sold, someone paid $50,000 for Johnny Cash's blue jumpsuit. You tell me who got the better deal. So in that spirit, let's look at some of Seattle's cheapest real estate purchases and the ridiculous luxury items that the same amount of money could buy.

And just so no one thinks these homes are a bunch of fixer-uppers or short sales that Seattle Bubble grabbed from the bottom of the real estate trashcan, site founder Tim Ellis promises that all his picks are perfectly livable houses that aren't falling apart (at least as far as the seller is advertising).

At No. 3 is a two bedroom, one bathroom 1,400 square-foot house in Greater Duwamish that sold on Nov. 22 for $150,279. Keep in mind that the average price for homes in that neighborhood is $275,000.

Sure, a house going for almost half the price of the surrounding properties is nice, but so is this diamond encrusted Bentley shifting knob that the buyer could have purchased instead.

Next on the list of cheapest home sales is this gorgeous 1,950 square-foot, three bedroom, one bathroom home in Highland Park. It's got a fireplace, bay windows, a detached garage and it sold for $120,000-even on Nov. 17.

Pretty sweet, but who wants a place to live when they could have a place to put their lipstick and wallet? This Hermes Matte Crocodile Birkin Bag, with its crocodile skin and 10 carats of diamonds is also $120,000-flat and would have turned plenty of heads as soon as you patiently pointed out to everyone the croc skin and diamonds.

And the No. 1 cheapest (non-fixer-upper) home sold in the last month is the aforementioned Rainer Beach estate. This home was sold in 2004 for $180,000 and last month it went for $53,035. It's got 910 square-feet of space, two bedrooms, one bath and a fireplace, all on a massive, 7,449 square-foot lot.

Again, a reasonable purchase, assuming you had not only overlooked the Johnny Cash Jumpsuit we told you about, but also this Dunhill "Gentleman's Games Chest," which includes rich douchebag's favorite games like bridge and backgammon and presents them in this stylish box that's made from the skin of male stingrays.
