Ian Johnson, Former Post Falls, Idaho, "Police Officer of the Year," Fired for Tazing Buddy as a Joke

There's no more hilarious way to surprise a friend than to sneak up on him and give him a Taze! If you happen to be a sworn police officer and the Tazer is your city-issued perp-shocker, however, you may want to make sure no tattletale, brown-nosing other officers are around to see it.

Ian Johnson, a veteran Post Falls Police Officer in Idaho, was canned for a "Tazer incident," which involved a friend of his who'd apparently been asking to be Tazed for sometime (yeah, that kind of friend).

According to the officer, however, he didn't actually shock his friend, but turned the Tazer on a few inches away from him--tomayto/tomahto.

As he tells the Coeur d'Alene Press today:

"He's been wanting me to Taser him, so when he spun away I clicked the Taser."

A colleague of Johnson's apparently saw the incident and ratted him out to the chief, who called Johnson in to explain. Mr. Tazey Crazy apparently came clean right away, saying "It was a stupid joke that went bad." But despite the man having been voted 2007's "Officer of the Year" and being otherwise in good standing, the chief fired him lickety-split.

Johnson's appeal was overruled by Post Falls City Administrator Eric Keck, who said:

"In this particular instance there were multiple things taken into account with his dismissal," said Keck, declining to elaborate. "It was a difficult decision to make because he's a very honest guy."

Silly officer, everyone knows honesty never got anyone anywhere. Tazers get people somewhere.

Just ask the "Retarded Policeman":
