Barbara Jeanne Anderson, 37-Year-Old Kentlake High-School Teacher, Charged With Having Sex With 17-Year-Old Student

​It took a couple days, but we finally have a name for the 37-year-old Kentlake High School math teacher who was arrested and charged with having sex with a 17-year-old student. It's Barbara Jeanne Anderson of Covington and police say her relationship with the student was, let's just say, complicated.

Anderson was charged with sexual misconduct on Tuesday after being arrested last week.

Particularly striking is the long and seemingly emotional bond between the boy and Anderson. Some 800 text messages were apparently exchanged, and the boy himself has expressed a strong connection to the teacher.

In other words, it doesn't seem to be a one-time, "wham-bam-thank-you-ma'am" event.

The 17-year-old boy is also a year away from being able to be blown up in an IED attack in Afghanistan.

The teacher claims that when she met the boy he was depressed and had been considering suicide. Indeed, the P-I reports that the teen struggled emotionally, and at one point ran away from home after suggesting suicide and was "found bleeding."

Investigators say that the boy confided in his teacher in an effort to cope with his depression, and that Anderson saw their long text-message relationship as his "lifeline."

At some point, however, investigators say Anderson went from concerned teacher to flirtatious ladyfriend.

Speaking with investigators, the boy said he'd turned to Anderson to confide in about his depression and suicidal thoughts. They began exchanging text messages and chatted online, then, at Anderson's suggestion, began meeting outside of school for lunch.

"While they were at the restaurant Ms. Anderson talked about how worried she was about being caught, how it would ruin her life, and about her family," Elias told the court.

In the days that followed, Anderson, a married mother of two, began sending the teen text messages detailing her fantasies, according to charging documents. They later met near the teen's home and, according to charging documents, had sex in the boy's car.

The affair only came to light when the boy told his uncle that he'd been "getting laid by a teacher."

Afterward, the boy's mom searched his phone and found the text messages.

Later the boy told investigators that Anderson was "the best math teacher he ever had."

I imagine she was.
