• I think it is pretty absurb to equate protecting freedom of speech with approval of the words spoken. I think it is even more rediculous to do this in the context of a newspaper's blog. Is the point of the title of this blog post to sensationalize or to enlighten?

Do not try and blame the supreme court or video game developers because you are a failure as a parent. • Laws like this one cannot be properly enforced and as such do more harm than good for the purpose of keeping games out of the hands of children.  People blithely want to believe that the government can appropriately keep their kids save from every type of objectional material, and laws like this lull them into a false sense of security.  The ONLY surefire way to keep objectional material (which is not constant among all parents) is to actually take a break from farmville, get off your butt and go engage your child about the types of games they are playing - and they are playing games, even if you are not.  Pieces of legislation like this are crafted by career politicians, hoping to sell a fake piece of the sky to all the chicken-little voters out there.  What's more - very little on this trite little list can compete with the torture porn that flows into the bargain bins at Best Buys across America or compete for lewdness with the moronic reality TV shows like Jersey Shore, Bridoplasty or Mafia Wives, so please - get out of your virgin whites and stop pretending that video games are an infernal plot against your children.

• Most of us grew up watching video games evolve from 8-bit systems with clumsy controls to convincing 3D graphics with intuitive interactive motion controls, and can easily disassociated reality from games.  But what will it be like for kids, like little Alex, that are growing up now. When children are in developmental stages and establishing an understanding of reality will we be ready to help them cope with highly immersive virtual worlds?
