• Yeah I agree, I was from Portland at the time, though that picture was taken in Seattle five years ago and I did kinda look like hell back then.  

• Sure, if by "beautiful" you mean overweight and can't dress, there are plenty of em.

• I'm still trying to dissect the ultimate back-handed compliment to a Seattleite: "So what part of the East Coast are you from?" Born and bred right here, darlin. I guess the hand-tooled Spanish boots (hand-me-downs, by the way) fooled you. Point is, I wear what I like the looks of, not what someone else tells me I should be wearing. It's called style, and plenty of Seattleites have it.

• I think the difference is that Seattleites wear whatever they want (especially given the weather) and don't give a rats ass what idiotic magazines like GQ have to say.

• He may have flubbed the dif. between flannel and plaid, but he's right. Basically people don't know how to dress like grownups here. And even when they do sort of a punk/grungey thing, they often fuck it up. Bad green dye job with roots showing/easy street records sweatshirt/dingy sneakers ... there's no pride, just half-hearted gestures toward some vague idea of alternativeness. SO goddamn depressing. Especially when people stick with it past the age of 35. You know who looks good though? I hate to admit, but there's a certain contingent of fixie-riding hipsters who look sharp as hell. People mock them, but they're at least putting in some effort.

• First of all there is a difference between flannel and plaid, which is lost on the critic. Flannel went out 20 years ago, plaid is timeless!

• Agree on the plaid--plenty of 'fashionistas' wear plaid. But its about how you wear it. Washington in general is lacking in fashion of any sort. When I visit home from NYC, people ask me why I'm dressed so oddly...when I'm wearing something mildly fashionable. oi.

Quit damning the man for five minutes and get yourself a blazer." Our city's whole identity is wrapped up in Nirvana? WHAT?! Has he ever even been to Seattle?? Also, the guy in the center of the photo is WEARING A BLAZER, it just has frayed edges. The guy with the mohawk behind him? Also wearing a blazer. And in fact, the only plaid in the whole photo is on the girl in the vinyl corset, which of course is Seattle's true #1 fashion staple. I can't believe I stopped damning the man for five minutes for this comment.

• i live in portland, they have the WORST fashion. JEANS WITH SKIRTS/DRESSES need i say more??

• It's because the women are so ugly. They know it's pointless to try, and the guys don't care to try and attract them.

• The plaid argument is a little weak, because if you go to Williamsburg--the "hip" area of NYC--a lot of people are wearing plaid. But of his overall assessment, I agree, Seattle has little fashion sense. I moved away from Seattle a few years ago, but when I visited with my girlfriend this year (her first trip there) she was surprised how poorly people dressed and she's not even someone who cares that much about that kind of stuff.

• I agree whole heartedly.  This place is the pits when it comes to fashion. 

• He should have realized that all of the people wearing plaid are doing so because it's their work uniform. Paid a visit to Skillet or RN74 or, I dunno, PORTLAND lately?
