Here's the Bible Passage that Inspired an Oregon Mother to Try and Circumcize Her Own Child
Portland mom Keemonta Peterson was sentenced to five years of probation for trying and failing to circumcise her three-month-old son. Two factors were said to play into Peterson's logic in performing the delicate surgery: YouTube videos and an Old Testament Bible verse.
We're not sure which YouTube videos she watched (this one, perhaps?). But we've got a pretty good idea which Bible verse she read.
Let's examine, shall we?
This is my covenant with you and your descendants after you, the covenant you are to keep: Every male among you shall be circumcised. 11 You are to undergo circumcision, and it will be the sign of the covenant between me and you. 12 For the generations to come every male among you who is eight days old must be circumcised, including those born in your household or bought with money from a foreigner--those who are not your offspring. 13 Whether born in your household or bought with your money, they must be circumcised. My covenant in your flesh is to be an everlasting covenant. 14 Any uncircumcised male, who has not been circumcised in the flesh, will be cut off from his people; he has broken my covenant."
Right off the bat, Peterson would be facing some righteous wrath since her son was a full three-months-old when she tried to lop his foreskin off and not eight days old like the scripture demands.
Secondly, how sure is everyone that Peterson kept her religious faith by circumcising all the young boys that were ever brought into her house--including children she "bought with money from a foreigner?"
Keemonta Peterson
I mean, sure, she seems on top of things when it comes to her own offspring, but who knows how many kids she purchased during a recent trip to Asia--those things are literally a dime a dozen there.
However many children Peterson has succeeded or failed in circumcising, one thing is certain: They better not complain about it later.
Because the Bible also goes over what happens to children who "curseth" their parents:
Exodus 21:17:
And he that curseth his father, or his mother, shall surely be put to death.
