Comment of the Week: 'Trying to Make a Buck Off Stoners'

• I don't see anyone chastising Hostess and Frito Lay for all the money THEY make off stoners.

• Also Theresa, I peeked into the book at Amazon.  Looks like the same stuff that people have been preaching for years about cannabis.  I don't see any new info.  Nothing that I could learn from the book that I haven't already learned from The Hemperor Himself Jack Herer.  I read all of this 20 years ago.   I've wrote about it for 10 years myself. So like I said, I have no plans on buying the book, and Im even less interested in buying it now that I skimmed through it on Amazon.  But I will probably pick the book up at a friends house some day and read it.   But it's not on my priority list thats for sure.   I would recommend to anyone who would buy this book to buy the Emperor Wears No Cloths by Jack Herer first, and if you want a cool baggy holder, buy Steve's book afterwards.

• Theresa, I'll buy what I think is worth the time and money.  You're opinion is noted, but my buying habits are as much of my business as Steve's stand on religion is his business.  As for Steves personal or public statements about religion.  He is just as entitled to those, as I am to criticize them.  He posted on my personal facebook page some religious bashing, without provocation, and he has done a little more religious bashing here on this topic.   So as I respect his right to state these odd statements, I also support my own right to respond.   Peace.  This is my complete response to the ignorant faith bashing of these (as I call them) militant atheists. http://xcannabis.com/2011/09/is-militant-atheism-a-sore-spot-for-the-legalization-movement/

• Odd though, that you didn't actually reply to anything I commented. The first and second items have zero relevance so I'm not sure why this is a reply instead of just another comment in which you share your personal opinion (before admonishing me to move on). I couldn't care less if you read the book, buy the book, borrow the book, or burn the book. That's why I didn't comment about the book, but about your personal statement in a public forum.  Since you brought it up though, my exact quote was 'if you only *buy* books written by people...' Consider that borrowing the book from a friend, while a compliment to the author, doesn't exacly pay the bills. And yes, part of the point of reading is buying what the author produces, else no more books by said author. I don't see what his or her beliefs or actions have to do with buying his or her book, much less the legalization of marijuana.

• Of course Steve, you do also say the same BS about faith, God, and Jeebus publicly and on other people's personal facebook pages too. 

• Theresa,  Im pretty sure you missed a whole bunch of what little I said here. 1.  I didn't say I wouldn't read it.  I said I didn't plan on buying it.  In fact I said I may read a friend's copy some day.  2.  One thing we can be glad to know is that Steve "doesn't love Jeebus".  3.  You are entitled to your personal opinion, and I am entitled to mine, etc.   So we have all displayed our personal opinion about a personal decision, in a public forum.   Moving on...

• Theresa, you are absolutely correct in every detail. I say whatever I want on my personal Facebook page, and anyone who has a problem with that? Well, that's exactly what it is -- their problem.

• "...that Steve does on his personal facebook..." If you only buy books written by people you *personally* agree with you are seriously missing out on the point of reading. Your objections would make sense if, in the book, Steve Elliott trashed religion, but since the only example you referred to were comments on his personal FB page, you just kinda look judgemental and closed-minded.  Also, I can't count how many times I have had religious scriptures, philosophies, proverbs, blessings, curses, historical facts, predictions, etc posted to my personal Facebook page, and I am a pretty big critic of religion myself... I didn't go to those people and make a point of telling them how they were a discredit to their profession because of their personal beliefs.  One more thing: I really wish ppl would stop attacking activists by holding an individual activist responsible for being the face of the entire movement... since there are every kind of person represented by the population of this country, by definition there are every kind of person represented by (and representing) the legalization movement.

• If the content is original then the $$ whatever the amount is well deserved.  Even if I don't like Steve myself for being an outright antagonist of anything religious, I still think some of his work is worth reading.  I haven't bought the book, and I don't plan on it.  But I will probably read someone elses copy some day. As for criticizing anything and everything religious.  It seems to me to be a big disadvantage to the legalization movement when someone goes to the extremes that Steve does on his personal facebook page to attempt isolation of 90% of the voting public based on their personal spiritual beliefs.  And with that.  Done.

• Speaking as a stoner, There is a grand chasm of difference between Steve Elliott telling stoners a bit of history & stoner lore & a dispensary over pricing under quality weed. Custom pipe blowers, Head shop owners, Subway, & I-tunes all get rich off stoners &  we love them. Companies like POP TARTS owners KELLOGGS who exist off of us munchy machines & then trash a hero for hitting a bong we don't love.
