"Occupy" Facebook Supporters: Seattle (20,000+) Loses to Sesame Street (35,000+), But Beats Bellevue (1)
In an extremely unscientific survey of "Occupy" Facebook groups conducted yesterday by Seattle Weekly, Seattle, the nation's 23rd largest city, has the fifth-largest number of virtual supporters in the country.
"Occupy Bellevue," on the other hand, has only one. Renton has two.
We strongly considered including "Occupy Sesame Street," which with 36,856 supporters would have been the second-most popular group in the U.S., but decided against it.
Before you look at the numbers, we obviously couldn't survey every group or every city, and many cities, like Los Angeles, have multiple groups. We counted only the largest.
As we previously reported, Seattle had the nation's fifth-largest Occupy protest last Saturday.
The 67 groups we surveyed had a total of 707,279 members -- impressive, but not mind-blowing.
