Since apparently it's too cold to send out any naked women painted in scales, PETA is instead focusing on matters of the home. The group's latest target, the fictitious garb of a fictitious animal being worn by a fictitious video-game character.

PETA slammed Nintendo in a new ad that takes aim at Mario's famous Tanooki suit, which first made its appearance in Super Mario Bros. 3 and is now reemerging in the new game for 3DS Super Mario 3D Land.

Here's PETA's ad.

According to the group:

"Tanooki may be just a suit in the game, but in real life tanuki are raccoon dogs who are skinned alive for their fur. By wearing a Tanooki, Mario is sending the message that it is OK to wear fur."

The PETA site has a gross video game featuring raccoon-like dogs being abused and a bunch of other footage designed to shock and offend you. This latest effort may be a sign that the group has finally stopped taking itself seriously.
