A babysitter is accused of using laundry detergent to poison a four-month-old baby that she was taking care of at her Federal Way home. According to charging papers, the sitter, Mabinty Williams, 33, called her husband 16 times, asking him how she should care for the infant. Then she went to a neighbor's home, knocked on the door and said, "There's someone in my house. It's a baby, and it's evil."

She also told the neighbor that she watched as the baby's eyes "changed to blue."

When police arrived, they saw the child on the couch and immediately noticed there was white powder that seemed to have been dumped on the baby's face. Williams said she didn't know how it got there.

Officers said they also saw a huge jar of formula placed on the baby's left arm, pinning it down and heard the infant gasp for breath. Her eyes were red and swollen.

While searching the home, police found a near empty 32-ounce jar of "Totally Awesome Oxygen Based Cleaner" on the TV tray by the couch, according to court documents.

Williams' husband, Christopher Peters said his wife sometime acts "erratically," so it wasn't out of character for her to get upset when he came came home, but declined to take care of the baby. He said she also accused him of being the baby's father and that the child was "staring at him."

The baby, who has been treated for chemical burns in her mouth and eyes, is the child of one of Williams' husbands's co-workers.

Mabinty will be arraigned in a Seattle courtroom on Jan. 31, King County Prosecutor's Office spokesman Dan Donohoe said this afternoon.
