Body Found at the Scene of South Park House Fire

503-S-Trenton-Fatality-Nigretto-Photo.jpg
Medical examiners haven't identified the body found inside the blaze.
Last night, investigators from the Seattle Fire Department made a grisly discovery at the scene of a house fire in South Park. The SFD says that around 8:20 p.m., a neighbor walking her dog spotted smoke and flames shooting out of a garage located at 503 S. Trenton Street.

The family inside the attached home was immediately alerted as the flames began to spread to the attic, and all escaped without injury. But after a crew of more than 50 firefighters finally brought the blaze under control, fire-department officials found human remains in the garage where the blaze evidently began.

The as-yet-unidentified body is currently in the care of the King County Medical Examiner's Office. There's obviously more to this story. We'll have the info as it comes.

UPDATE: Hicks was arrested yesterday in California. Details after the jump.

A woman checking up on her daughter and granddaughter found both shot to death yesterday in their Beacon Hill home. Now police are calling 29-year-old Daniel Hicks a "person of interest" in the two murders.

Police say that Hicks is well acquainted with the 28-year-old woman and her 13-week-old daughter. But they won't specify the nature of their relationship.

Hicks doesn't have a long rap sheet. In December of 2001 he was arrested at 5th and Pike for breaking a motorist's window and kicking a dent in her door. Hicks claimed the woman had hit him with her car. He eventually reached an agreement to attend anger management classes in exchange for a lighter sentence.

The Leschi street where Aaron Sullivan was killed
With its waterfront views and charming craftsmen homes, Leschi is generally considered a pretty tony address—the "gold coast" of the Central District, if you will. So residents must be wondering what in the world is going on there this year, which has proved to be the neighborhood's annus horribilis.

A string of traumatic crimes has hit Leschi, the latest of which was revealed yesterday when King County prosecutors filed a murder charge against a 53-year-old man accused of stabbing his girlfriend to death in their Leschi apartment.

Reader: Murdered Rapper Played the Part of Gangster, Didn't Live It

AKSHUN COVER AMW.jpg
Max's friend says this pose was mostly an act.
Reader An old friend responds to Chalk Outlines: Local Rapper Max "AKshun" Gasoi Identified As The Victim In Weekend Shooting. He says what's been reported about Max doesn't line up with the friend he knew.

"It's weird to read about people you know in the news. The media turn them into strangers.

I knew Max all his life. I even babysat for him when he was little. Just a few things that may help put his life in better perspective: To people who knew him, he was Max, not "AKshun the Don," which was just a stage name or fantasy alias. It's true that he was born in New York City just 21 years ago, but he had been a Seattle resident since age 2, and he went through the local school system. And while he lived for many years with his family in the Central District, most recently his home was in North Seattle with his partner and his baby girl.

Max was loved, and he will be missed. And that's the truth."

It's a deadly, if familiar, progression of events: drinking leads to a confrontation, the confrontation leads to fisticuffs and fisticuffs to tragedy not limited to but including murder.

Based on initial reports, that's what went down last night at Goodtime Ernies Sports Bar and Grill in Burien. The fight broke out around last call and continued as several of the combatants spilled out into the street. What prompted it is at this early point unknown, but when police arrived they found a 25-year-old man suffering from a stab wound that eventually killed him.

Ex-Wife's Boyfriend Suspected in Disappearance of Mark Stover, Dog Trainer to the Stars

markstover.jpg
Island Dog Adventures
Dog trainer to the stars Mark Stover is missing and presumed dead.
Mark Stover built a name for himself in the dog-training world with his alpha-male attitude and ability to turn bad dogs good. Stover's reputation was nearly as impressive as his client list, which included Eddie Vedder, SW contributor Krist Novoselic, Starbucks CEO Howard Schultz and Ichiro Suzuki.

On October 29th, Skagit Island police called to Stover's home found his dog, Dingo, bleeding from gunshot wounds and a bathroom that smelled suspiciously of bleach. Hours later Stover's station wagon was found ditched at a local casino with bloody fingerprint smears on the interior.

Linda Opdycke, Stover's ex-wife, called police to her house when she found out about her ex-husband's disappearance. She claimed to have nothing to do with it. But when authorities left her boyfriend was in handcuffs, soon to be charged with Stover's murder.

Oregon Fisherman Accused of Murdering Buddy, Dumping Body

erinrieman.jpg
Erin Rieman

UPDATE: Newly released court documents give a brutal play-by-play. After the jump...

It's safe to say that if Erin Rieman ever asks you out on his boat, you're obligated to at least think twice. The Pacific City, Oregon man was arrested yesterday and charged with the murder of his friend and business partner, 53-year-old John Adkins. Adkins had been missing since July 4th weekend, when he, Rieman and a third man set off from Garibaldi, Oregon in The Tiger, the 48-foot fishing boat they co-owned.

Investigators say the point of the trip was to fix the boat in Ilwaco Harbor, just on the other side of the Oregon-Washington border. When The Tiger came back to port, however, Adkins was no longer on board. Adkins' family reported him missing three days later, but no body has been found. The key to arresting Rieman, says Pacific County prosecutor David Burke, was the third, yet identified, man on the boat.
