A Hella Good 'Chella
In response to Barr's post on Tuesday, this year's Coachella is not about Rage! Who cares about those dudes, for real. It's about this lady right here! Since I moved to Seattle ONE DAY after her Vespertine performance on the pier, my one and only chance to see her, I'm taking advantage of the fest this year, if only on Friday (full lineup after the jump). I've never seen the appeal of hanging out in that polo field like a bunch of cattle, but I'll make an exception for Bjork. And it's not just me—I have friends who went all the way to Iceland last year to see her with the Sugarcubes, so rare are her North American performances.
Other acts that make this year special include Swedish troubadours Peter Bjorn and John, The Arcade Fire unveiling their new material, and phenoms-in-their-own-ways Konono No. 1, Lupe Fiasco, and Richie Hawtin. Also, I don't want to miss another monumental gig like Daft Punk's from last year. I was sick of hearing about it, but The video proved that it was worth talking about. For those who want to catch Coachella-bound acts as they come through Seattle, here's the word from Neumo's Steven Severin (with my inserted notes):
"A lot of stuff hasn't been announced yet, but what I can tell you that's coming through for sure is... Stephen and Damian Marley, LCD Soundsystem, Blonde Redhead, Peeping Tom, Explosions in the Sky (these guys kick ass, and the show is already on its way to selling-out), Hot Chip, Coco Rosie, The Coup, Junior Boys, Sparklehorse (with Jesse Sykes and the Sweet Hereafter at the Moore!), The Kooks, Grizzly Bear, Tapes N Tapes."

I made in Indio CA this summer during my cross-country move to Seattle. I thought it would be nice (it is near Palm Springs, afterall). But the place was downright creepy. My dog almost ran away (you know something\'s up when a well-behaved dog bolts for the railroad tracks). The pool of the Motel 6 we stayed in was filled with trash (and we even requested a room next to the pool, so we could, you know, swim). And we couldn\'t find a decent place to eat.
Needless to say, I vowed never to return to Indio CA. While I\'d love to see Bjork again or finally see The Jesus and Mary Chain, nothing, not even a who\'s-who music festival will bring me back to the Coachella Valley, ever again.

Not finding a good place to eat and a pool full of trash are the only things that make it creepy? You\'re a tough customer!

While I\'ve done enough festival-attending for three lifetimes -- either as a ticketholding fan or a working journalist -- I second Rachel\'s assertion that any chance to catch Bjork live is probably worth the hassle. I\'ve seen her twice and both performances were amazing. The last time was in 1997 at the Tibetan Freedom Concert in NYC, and even the sad spectacle of that kid from Squirt TV trying to mack on Bjork in the backstage area couldn\'t overshadow how great she was that day, even if her set was relatively abbreviated.
Anyway, it looks like Friday is by far the best day -- Bjork, JAMC, Jarvis, Shadow, the Youth, Busdriver ... skipping town Saturday morning and \"missing\" the Red Hot Chili Peppers and Rage seems like a pretty good strategy.

Uh, why doesn\'t Bumbershoot bring artists that we haven\'t seen in a long time? Why did we get stuck with The Steve Miller band?

i agree that band is boring as hell, but it did bring the largest crowd, so go figure. we did get a tribe called quest and that\'s no small potatoes!
there\'s always room for improvement. who would you like to see play B-shoot this year?
