New Modest Mouse Song

Have any of you out there heard the new Modest Mouse song "Dashboard"? If not, click here. It's streamable via Pitchfork. Personally, I dig the song. The hipsters have already trashed it as too mainstream, and a little too "Float On, Pt 2". But I'm of a mind that Isaac can do what Isaac feels like doing...because he will do what he feels like doing no matter what you say. But I'd like for you to weigh in. You think our local heroes are reaching too far to be Franz Ferdinand? Or do you think this is just another great Modest Mouse song that you'll pump your fist to?

I agree with Jon and Brian. People only know of MM because of their two newest albums. And they\'ve been drawing some asshole fans because of it lately. But assholes are ever present wherever and whatever the case may be. I\'m all for Isaac doing whatever he pleases. I dig the new stuff, but the old stuff is where my blood runs. They\'re...growing up, y\'know? And getting older, so of course their style changes. But fuck, their set lists are just made up of Good News and We Were Dead, and Tiny Cities Made Of Ashes and Broke. I wish I could\'ve caught them while they were on tour for the Moon and Antarctica.

Both Float On and Dashboard make me nervous because I don\'t think they sound anything like the rest of their respective albums! I guess, I\'m afraid that Modest Mouse is going to attract people ONLY for those two songs and say that Modest Mouse is their favorite band EVER!!! Dashboard\'s a good song, but it doesn\'t sound like Modest Mouse. I\'m also a little afraid that they\'re going to get big and start playing their big songs and forget all the songs on their older albums. And, I do think that Isaac will do as Isaac pleases.

I love modest mouse you know but I think dashboard will hurt modest mouse more then it will help due to I think it will create another group of modest mouse listeners who like to dance and play fuckin baseball just all the jock fags could end up liking it then get ahold of lonesome crowded west or long drive or my favorite building nothing out of something and totally destroy modest mouse\'s music, I might be greedy thinking Isaac Brock\'s music is just mine but I don\'t know I thought float on enough damage to when you see float on or dashboard on some emo girl\'s myspace and they think they are badass
Floater...that was a really well-put comment. I think you\'re right on all counts.
I think that at this point the world does not need any more modest mouse songs. in fact, i think that every word that comes out of isaac brock\'s mouth evokes a wretch in my system. They are a bunch of lazy, rotund northwest turds who should seek out their true calling, which is waiting tables at denny\'s. modest mouse are about as lame as it gets and they bring out the absolute essence of the pacific northwest: mediocre art for mediocre people. i need to move.
I\'m not sure if this is a case of Isaac doing what Isaac wants to do or Isaac doing what Sony wants to do, but the effort to put this band into the mainstream is definitely there. The radio-friendly tunes, recruiting journeyman Johnny Marr to help write those friendly tunes, and the glossy promo shot of the band are all indications that somebody wanted a change of direction from the rawer indie days. Which is all fine and dandy. If the band gets rich and famous by \"selling out\" their music to commericials and sports cast, and creating music that appeals to a larger demographic, more power to them. We all get into our careers to become successful. It shouldn\'t be any different for musicians.
I heard the song on kexp this morning, as a matter of fact. It\'s a hit for sure- I have been humming the tune all day.
This sounds to me like the aural expression of an adolescent girl who dated a hippie, wore birkenstocks and second hand levis but upon falling for the punk rock kid in 2nd period ditched the blue jeans for skin tight black denim and eyeliner. It sounds like Modest Mouse with a crush on the Smiths.
Heard \"Dashboard\" the other night on The End, but I didn\'t know it was Modest Mouse at first. I thought to myself, \"this singer sounds like Isaac Brock, but the music is dance-rock stuff. Who the hell do these people think they are - Modest Ferdinand??\" Regardless, I didn\'t mind it and listened all the way through - the catch factor is definitely there.
Yeah, I\'m all for the Mouse exploring every possible realm of the music biz they want to explore. I think there is an element to Isaac that can\'t be tamed. Even if his songs get more radio-friendly, that dude will never be a gleaming pop star. So, we\'re safe there. I think we should be fucking amped that songs as good as \"Float On\" and \"Ocean Breathes Salty\" got played on the radio. Same goes for \"Dashboard\".
If MM wants to take it to the next level, they have to continue to put out songs like \"Float On\" and \"Dashboard.\" They\'d wallow in hipster obscurity if they continued to produce music like their old stuff.
