What The Kids are Watching

Oh, YouTube, what would I do without you? Just last week, after a smokin’ karaoke rendition of Clarence Carter’s “Strokin’” had me falling out of my chair in hysterics, I sought out the site to see if there was an official video of the song available.  Sure enough, there it was, along with more than a dozen homemade videos of people dancing and singing to the song.

Then today, I was tipped off to a cable access children’s television show in Washington D.C. called Pancake Mountain. (I’m way behind in times, I know.) And I thought the special guests on Sesame Street were cool.

Between pitching “Cheddarsaurus” cereal and performing “Big Dipper” for a room full of kids, Built to Spill’s Doug Martsch says, “this is the weirdest show we’ve been on.

Elsewhere, there are clips of X, Shonen Knife, Arcade Fire, and Bright Eyes performing, Wayne Coyne singing karaoke to Starship’s “We Build This City,” and Emily Haines of Metric getting the kiddos to sing along to “Monster Hospital.” Nice. Here’s the complete and diverse list of who has performed.

Who would have thought the hippest groms in the country lived in D.C.? Seattle, we need something like this.
