Natural Philanthropy

I wouldn't normally just re-post something from another website, but this one hit close to home so I couldn't resist. Brian "Geologist" Weitz of Animal Collective has a grandfather who is suffering from Parkinson's disease. As a result, Weitz is taking on some fundraising efforts, including joining his mother on the Parkinson's Council's 2007 Walk for Parkinson's in Philadelphia. I grew up across the street from my grandfather and watched him go through the wretched stages of Parkinson's disease. Simply put, the whole thing sucks...big time. I watched a man who was once a big, burly woodsman and farmer rapidly become an old man no longer able to lift his own legs, open his mouth to talk, or feed himself, among other awful things. Anyway, Geologist and his mom are looking for donations. You can donate directly to his personal page. But hurry up with that cash, cuz the walk is April 21. And my thoughts go out to Geologist and his family.
