Scene Aesthetic

Call this the most famous band in our backyard you've never heard of:

On Sunday, the New York Times Magazine ran "Sex, Drugs, and Updating Your Blog," a piece about the impact that MySpace and blogs are having on independent musicians. Everett-based Scene Aesthetic, led by 21-year-olds Andrew de Torres and Eric Bowley, received a prominent shout-out for their ability to use MySpace as a legitimate platform for showcasing their music. They haven’t played a show in a while considering their online presence (they’re regulars at El Corazón and play the Kirkland Teen Center and Redmond’s Old Fire House).
So just what kind of online presence warrants a write-up in the New York Times? The band boasts over 186,000 friends; their songs have been played over 15.6 million times. They've got a fully-operating merch display on their page, too--a perfect Band 2.0. And they just keep growing: when The Wall Street Journal covered them last year, they had a mere 124,000 friends.
Look for their album coming out this July. And then, maybe we'll get to see if they really exist onstage--that whole 'life offline' bit--after all.
