Led Zeppelin vs. All Tomorrow's Parties

This past weekend, the music talk in England (and really, the rest of the world) was about Monday's one-off Led Zeppelin show. I'm sure the show was great - epic even. A once-in-a-lifetime moment. But if I was in England this past weekend, I wouldn't have been anticipating Led Zeppelin. My head would've been popping off at All Tomorrow's Parties, that diverse weekend-long festival that the recently reunited trip-hoppers Portishead headlined and curated. I would've been ecstatic enough seeing Portishead - Roseland NYC: Live is easily one of my favorite live recordings - but no, the GZA crossed the pond to perform his legendary Liquid Swords record, and electronic music's Beethoven, Aphex Twin, crawled out of his digital Cornwall cave to give a rare live performance. All the drugs in the world would've had little or no affect on my natural high.

Anyhow, urb.com has posted videos from Portishead's performance that feature three new songs, "Machine Gun," "Mystic," and "Wicca." It's like Portishead have picked up right where they left off. As for Led Zeppelin, well, there's no Led Zeppelin without John Bonham - at least not to me.
