Arthur & Yu
In Camera
It's no secret that I heart Arthur & Yu in a big, big, way. I'm not positive it was on in the exact moment, but I know we were listening to their demo an awful lot when my baby was conceived. It was the first thing I played for the zygote that would become Strummer in utereo via headphones on my belly and I received my promo copy of In Camera a few days after we finally got to bring Strum home from the hospital, after two longgggggggg weeks in the NICU (he was a couple months early).
I know there have been other records that have synced up with were I was at that particular era in my life, but none as perfectly as the release of In Camera. During my little guy's hospital stay, I spent nearly every day in that sterile, semi-scary environment wanting to just bring him home, snuggle and listen to records. Finally back in our own digs, In Camera served as the backdrop to one on the most special, warm, sweet and fuzzy (much like the record itself) times in my life.
As to its quality as an album, separate from the personal stuff that surrounded its release, well, I'll just describe it to you the same way I did to my friend and fellow A&Y fan, producer/Turn-On Erik Blood, "This record is so good, it's so, so, good! It'll make your stomach hurt, it's so good! I love it so much! It's, It's , it's MaryFuckin'Poppins! Practically perfect in every way!"
