"Every Valley is Not a Lake," recorded live at SXSW 2007
The band still hasn't released a name or track list for their sophomore full-length, which is expected later this summer. But, at their Sasquatch! set last month, the band threw down more than a couple new tracks. Oh, and way back at SXSW 2007 we heard the band play the un-released song, "Every Valley Is Not a Lake," and have been listening to it on the hour ever since. Check out a sample, above. Enjoy!
My thoughts on their Sasquatch! set:
Seeing the Cold War Kids in action is like watching a coordinated train wreck. Out of control with a purpose, never so far gone that it can't be righted. A low tackle to the bass player? No problem. He'll return the favor when you're on the keyboard. During their frenetic afternoon set, the band mixed the old with the new to an audience already well-schooled in the band's debut, Robbers & Cowards. The new material is promising, particularly “Mexican Dogs.” Hustle up with the new record, boys.
Set List: “Avalanche” (new), “Mexican Dogs” (new), “We Used to Vacation,” “Passing the Hat,” “Every Man I Fall For” (new), “Hang Me Out to Dry,” random new song, “Hospital Beds,” “Saint John.”
