KEXP Exposed!!!

KEXP, where Meredith Brooks matters.

A few of us in the office have been recruited by a certain sneaker company to play schoolyard games against other businesses around town. This sneaker company provides the shoes, shirts, and even a tab at watering hole after each match. I'm sure this sneaker company was hoping for some free promo out of this thing. But, I'm afraid, our ethics policy prohibits swapping shoes for coverage. So, I'll refer to this sneaker company by the name I use for these kicks around my house, "Sanconeys."

Anyway, yesterday's game was whiffle ball, best played while wearing a brand-new pair of weightless Sanconeys. We played against Frog Design. But this story isn't about winners and losers. You see, on the next "field," KEXP was taking on an unknown opponent. Of course, the Seattle-radio darlings packed their own boom box. And what did they play? Peter Bjorn and John? Blue Scholars? Band of Horses? Hell no. When these kids are off the clock they turn straight for MERIDITH BROOKS. And yes, I heard some of them singing along to the chorus, "I'M A BITCH, I'm a lover, I'm a child, I'm a mother ..."

We could have played for hours in the new Sanconeys. (Did anyone else notice they didn't even need to be broken in?) But, when the games finally did come to an end, we all met up at a local bar, which will also go unnamed. After a couple pitchers of Pabst, a couple of us made our way over to the KEXP table to start some shit. We play them in a couple weeks, you see. And I wanted to get some bad blood boiling. We exchanged a few jibes, which, since this is a family "paper" cannot be repeated here. But, I think it's clear that the next match will be one of legend.
