On The Horizon: Nico Muhly @ Triple Door

Good news on the classical-music-for-hipsters front: Nico Muhly is playing the Triple Door, August 14.

Who? Well, if you take out your copy of Bonnie 'Prince' Billy's The Letting Go and open the liner notes, you'll see "Strings Arrangements by Nico Muhly". You'll also see his name credited as a performer and arranger and conductor for Bjork and Antony of Antony and the Johnstons. He was the subject of a lengthy New Yorker profile some months back and is, of course, in increasingly high demand.

Muhly's compositions are intimate and spare, reminding me of curtains caught in a breeze. A mix of earthy, romantic washes of viola and a touch of electronic nuance. Like Antony says: "He paints the sky with his work."
