Beloved Local Guitarist Joe Shikany Dies in Tragic Accident

rimrock.jpg

Just got a voice message from Connie Dunn, owner of the Rimrock Steak House on Lake City Way. Last night, at a lake north of his native Spokane, Joe Shikany, the wonderful veteran guitarist from the Davanos, Powercell, N-Sane, and the Paul Rodgers Band, died after being struck by a fallen tree in heavy winds. Dunn says that the Rimrock will be staging the wake to end all wakes tonight in the Stirrup Room, which will feature live music from Shikany's local bands. In the course of my researching this story about the bar, the bands, and their neighborhood, I didn't meet a single person who didn't adore Shikany. I adore him too, and know that he'd like nothing more than for everyone to show up at the Rimrock and raise a glass to honor his life.

His true passion for his music and ease of self allowed Joe to be open and embrace all who the universe graced with his presense.

I played music w/ Joe for several years in Seattle during the 80's and have so many wonderful memories. What an amazing, gifted man he was and I will miss him dearly. I am truly saddened by this and my heart goes out to his family and friends. All of my love sweet Joe, God Bless, Suzanne

joe and i were both guitarists with shyanne at different times, but i was glad he was there when the album was being done. he is a good friend to both my brother and myself, and if i remember correctly, he is the definition of a good guy. never hurt anyone, always positive, and a pleasure to be around. i'll miss you Joe, but you leave a good mark.

I had the privilege of working with Joe in Shyanne. He touched everyone I knew with his remarkable talents, from his guitar playing to his wood working. I'm going to miss you Joe.
