Songs For Eating and Drinking

Seattle-by-way-of-Portland epicurean savant Michael Hebberoy is not only a smart, handsome bastard (some people just call him a bastard; I beg to differ), but a helluva creative instigator when it comes to his ongoing One Pot dinner series.

Hebb's events are communal dining experiences taken to artful levels, teetering of the precipice of pretentious, but somehow always feeling more overtly heartwarming than oppressively highbrow. The construct is actually elegantly simple: gather interesting, intellectually curious people around one table to share a meal cooked (almost entirely) in one pot. Unsurprisingly, Hebb has plenty of quality culinary connections, so it's not unusual to have people like Sitka & Spruce’s Matt Dillon helming said pot.

The first One Pot I attended was at Neumo's last holiday season, when he brought together a friendly cross-section of musicians and music industry peers to break bread and periodically break into song (now if only I could go back and attend the one held at Gore Vidal's house in 2006). The whole music community was reeling from the news of the Crocodile closure and a gathering like that was just what everyone needed. It was pretty magical (see Kerri Harrop's lovely blog post about the evening over here on General Bonkers) and apparently enough of a success that he's kept the idea going. He's currently putting together dinners to be held in residence during the Bumbershoot festival.

He's recently launched a page called "Songs For Eating and Drinking", full of music and video from his most recent music-related One Pot, held just last month. Aside from the frustratingly small font, it's a fun site to peruse, especially for the photos and video, including this clip of Stone Gossard and Barb Ireland covering Hank Williams' "Cool Water":
