Amusing show announcement of the week

Local hipster hop acts Champagne Champagne and Mad Rad are opening for 2 Live Crew at Nectar on November 7. This news was shared with me via Mad Rad manager John Richards (no, not that John Richards, this John Richards), who was both thrilled and bemused by the evening's possibilities. My prediction: 2LC leader Luther Campbell veers to one of two polar extremes and either showers our young hometown MCs with accolades or will be so jealous of their precocious talents, that he'll diss them incessantly from the stage. Either way, it should be a sight to see.

Speaking of Nectar, booker Colin Johnson sure has a smart looking calendar over the next few months, particularly when it comes to both national and local hip hop acts. The night before the aforementioned Crew, the Fremont club has Scarub from the Living Legends, with support from Braille, Type, the Wright Family, Kruse and Gray Matters, and it's all hosted by Grayskul's Onry Ozzborn. For someone who had a baby just a few months ago (daughter Ame Sophie Johnson was born in late July), Johnson is certainly kicking ass these days.
