Some Tuesday Night Show Suggestions

Aside from Mark Fefer's earlier post about Peter Apfelbaum, there are a couple of other very awesome shows going on tonight.
Roky Erickson and the Black Angels at Showbox at the Market, 8 p.m., $25, all ages
I'll just refer you to Hannah's column for this one. In which you will find out that the Black Angels are not only playing before Roky Erickson, they're playing WITH Roky Erickson as his backing band. Lucky them!
Crystal Castles, Lymbyc System, Expendable Youth at Neumos, 8 p.m., $15, all ages
Justin F. Farrar wrote this very lovely blurb about Crystal Castles a while back:
The Canadian duo Crystal Castles is commonly associated with the latest crop of electro-pop/nü rave dance jammers. In addition to appearing one of them Kitsuné compilations (along with Passions and Thieves Like Us), group cofounder Ethan Kath has remixed tracks by Bloc Party and Klaxons. But unlike their fellow hipsters, Crystal Castles doesn't go for slick club grooves or post-modern, neo-Kraftwerk coolness. Instead, the group deals in vintage Atari bleeps, crunchy distortion, jackhammer beats and claustrophobic soundscapes. In fact, Crystal Castles' brand of bouncy juvenilia sounds far more inspired by noise-rock obscuros like Coin and Extreme Animals it does the straight-up electro of Fischerspooner and Adult.
Spinto Band, Frightened Rabbit, Colonies at Chop Suey, 8 p.m., $12, all ages
Ma'chell, in this week's Short List, wrote the below about the Spinto Band. Opener Frightened Rabbit, a Scottish pop band, is pretty good as well.
Ahhhh, good ol' Delaware. The "first state" has given us so much over the years: VP candidate Joe Biden, Tupperware, screen doors, the comedic stylings of Judge Reinhold....and now the musical mastery of the one and only Spinto Band. SP's latest effort, Moonwink, combines a manically melodic energy with restrained pop smarts that wave out slightly on the British tip (which may be why the Brit press has gone completely gaga over these lads.) Much of the credit for reigning and honing the Spinto's POW, BOOM, ZAP has to be given to producer/engineer Dave Trumfio (Wilco, Mates of State), and mix master Tchad Blake (Tom Waits, Cibo Matto) who applied the right amount of twinkly mellowness to the already wisely-crafted, textured tunes. Live, however, I hear the Spinto Band can go off like a middle school kid who's missed two days of ADD meds, so be prepared (or self-medicated) for a beautifully blissful spazz-o-rama!
