As all you Beatles fanatics out there know, tomorrow is the 40th anniversary of the Beatles' last public performance ever. In homage to the most popular band of all time, Seattle's own Beatles cover band, Creme Tangerine, is playing the Pike Place Market rooftop tomorrow at noon, atop the Copacabana Cafe (of course, the show is free). After the show, Ken Mansfield, Apple Records' U.S. manager and witness to the Beatles; final show will hang out to answer audience questions. No word on whether or not the cops will show up and shut the show down for maximum authenticity.

Though my feelings about cover bands have always been mixed, I have to say that I have lots of respect for Creme Tangerine for not succumbing to the temptation to don cheesy period costumes in a misguided attempt to physically look as much like the Beatles as possible. Actually, truth be told, they don't sound much like them, either.  But, all ye Beatles fans might say, "hey, who cares? We know it's a live Beatles cover show, not a Beatles show. Quitcher bitchin, Brickner." Touche, folks, touche.

But hey, speaking of the Beatles, I've got a question for ya'll: is there anyone out there who doesn't like the Beatles' music?
I'm not talking about thinking they're overrated, or overplayed, or thinking that there are better groups out there who were more deserving of the band's unrivaled popularity.  I'm talking about downright DISLIKING the Beatles' songs.  I'm talking about actually trying to tell me that you find it displeasurable to listen to "Norwegian Wood" or "Oh, Darling" or "Maxwell's Silver Hammer" or [insert your own favorite Beatles song here]. Because of all the people I've known who claim to dislike the Beatles, I've found that every single one of them only said it because they resent the Beatles for their success.

Me? I love the Beatles.  I had Beatles cassette tapes when I was wee that I used to listen to so often I'd wear them out every few months and my mom had to buy me new ones.  Well, the Beatles and Buddy Holly.  I think people who claim not to like the Beatles are just saying that to be contrary because they don't want to go along with the pack.
